I started making a fresh bottle of beetroot juice for her to drink 2 times per day for 2 weeks and guess what, she literally didn’t need to take iron pills anymore because her iron levels went through the roof! Read on to learn more about beets and why you should start adding them to your diet regularly.

Note: Beetroot juice can interact with certain medications and cause allergic reactions in some people. Please refrain from drinking it if you are on blood pressure medications such as losartan and metoprolol.

3 Benefits Of Drinking Beetroot Juice

Now beets are definitely not tasty and they smell awful for most people including me but it is one healthy vegetable! You will be losing out on a lot of benefits by excluding beets and beetroot juice from your diet. I usually throw in some apples and carrots when making a batch of beet juice and it actually tastes a lot better.

Continue reading below to get my favorite beetroot juice recipe. With that out of the way, let’s begin with all the amazing benefits of beet juice!

1. Lowers High Blood Pressure

Beets contain nitrate acid which studies shows help relax blood vessels. People with high blood pressure can benefit greatly by drinking a glass of fresh beetroot juice early in the morning. Note that beets act fast when it comes to lowering blood pressure, results are within an hour and last up to 24 hours.

Just make sure that if you are on medications to lower your blood pressure, you must refrain from drinking beetroot juice.

2. High In Dietary Fiber

So one cup of beets contains over 3.5 grams of dietary fiber which is 14% of your daily recommended intake value. We all know that consuming a high-fiber diet is very important for improving digestive health. But that’s not all, fiber helps control blood sugar and high cholesterol levels as well.

By drinking a glass of fresh beetroot juice daily, you will be able to reduce constipation, food, and sugar cravings plus maintain your overall weight. Best of all, fiber makes you live longer!

3. High In Iron & Essential Minerals

As I stated above, I used beetroot juice to get my daughter’s iron levels back to normal, it also helped increase her blood levels as well in a little over 2 weeks. This is because 1 cup of fresh beetroot cubes contains 1.0g mg of iron which is 6% of your daily recommended intake value.

Drinking beetroot juice for up to 6 weeks can help bring back your ferritin levels to normal according to this study! But that’s not all, this amazing juice contains other essential minerals that cleanse your blood and improve oxygen levels in the blood such as the following:

  • Calcium
  • Iron
  • Magnesium
  • Manganese
  • Phosphorus
  • Sodium
  • Zinc
  • Copper
  • Selenium

Who Should Avoid Beetroot Juice

Beetroot juice is very healthy and does not cause side effects when consumed in moderation, that said, if you suffer from kidney stones, you should not drink beetroot juice. This is because beets contain oxalate which is known to form crystals in the urine.

Also, people on low blood pressure medications should also refrain from drinking beetroot juice because it naturally lowers blood pressure quickly. Babies below 3 months of age should not consume beetroot juice as well because it is very high in nitrate.

Best Time To Drink Beetroot Juice

So according to research, the best time to drink beetroot juice is early in the morning or at least an hour before breakfast. It is recommended that you drink 1 glass which is around 200 ml to get all the amazing benefits. Other research indicates that you can also drink beetroot juice at night as well.

There are also questions about if you can drink beetroot juice on an empty stomach and the answer is yes! Studies show that drinking beetroot juice on an empty stomach is actually more beneficial. This is because your body will be able to effectively absorb its many minerals and vitamins.

My Personal Beetroot Juice Recipe

So as I promised, here is my beetroot juice recipe that you can make at home if you dislike the strong taste of beets. Note: You can add in a little bit of water if the juice is too thick. The lemon juice acts as a vitamin c shot which will help your body absorb iron from the beetroot.

You can also reduce the amount of beet if you choose to as well bet this is the exact recipe I used for my daughter to get her iron levels up. You can also drink up to 2 cups of beetroot juice daily.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large beetroot
  • 1 large carrot
  • 1 large green apple
  • 1/2 a lemon

Preparation:

Wash all of your ingredients and except the lemon, remove the seeds from the apple. Squeeze the lemon and set it aside. Now using a juicer, begin juicing the beet, carrot, and apple. Once you are done, add in the lemon juice, stir and drink it right away.
