Sagging skin is not always caused by aging, other common factors like smoking, regular intake of alcohol, poor diet, dehydration, pregnancy, and obesity can contribute to loose skin as well.
There are many treatment plans and anti-aging creams that will successfully reduce the appearance of sagging skin, but not everyone can afford to undergo medical procedures. The following home remedies are cheap and they are actually very effective when used correctly.
10 Best Home Remedies For Sagging Skin That I Use
Sagging skin is when you lose muscle tissue in certain parts of your body such as the upper arms, stomach, thighs, and jawline. It is usually caused by aging but may also be caused by weight loss, pregnancy, or low collagen and elastin.
Collagen and elastin are both responsible for firm skin. Collagen is a protein that is found in the skin’s connective tissue and elastin is what gives the skin its elasticity. Consuming a vitamin C-rich diet and drinking enough water can help collagen production and skin elasticity.
If your sagging skin was caused by pregnancy or weight loss, it may take time to tighten your skin normally but it can be done with exercise and the right diet plus the home remedies for sagging skin below. You can also take collagen supplements plus retinol which is a form of vitamin A to see faster results.
Using vitamin c serum in affected areas and eating a diet that consists of milk, legumes, cottage cheese, beans, nuts, and fish will help provide your body with enough elastin and collagen. Eventually, it will happen but patience is needed when trying to get rid of sagging skin.
Home Remedies For Sagging Skin
Here are some of my favorite home remedies for sagging skin that I use regularly at home and you should too.
1. Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe Vera contains malic acid which is very effective in removing dead skin cells and promoting skin regeneration. Applying aloe vera gel to your skin regularly will help increase blood flow and circulation, therefore strengthening your skin and improving elasticity.
- Apply Aloe Vera on the areas where there is a presence of loose skin and begin massaging gently.
- Leave the Aloe Vera to affect the area for at least 30 minutes and wash it off using warm water.
- Repeat this remedy at least once a week and you will start to see changes!
2. Egg whites
Eggs contain protein that is effective in collagen production. A single large egg contains over 3.6 grams of protein. Applying an egg mask to the affected areas of your skin regularly can help tighten your skin and provide your skin with essential vitamins and minerals.
Egg whites also contain something called hydro lipids which are responsible for helping the skin retain moisture (great for elasticity) and help tighten the skin. Note that when the skin retains moisture, it increases skin cell production.
- Whisk two egg whites and apply them to your affected areas.
- Leave it for at least 30 minutes and then wash it off using warm water.
- Use this remedy at least twice a week for noticeable results.
3. Fresh Lemon Juice
Fresh lemon juice is amazing when it comes to tightening the skin. You will be surprised by how effective this remedy is. This is because lemon juice contains a lot of vitamin C and vitamin C helps boost collagen production in the skin very fast.
Collagen helps tighten pores in the skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and gives your skin elasticity when used regularly.
- Squeeze 2 fresh lemons and apply the juice to the affected areas, massage it in for a minute and leave it on for at least 10 minutes. Wash it off with warm water.
- Repeat this remedy two or three times a day for as long as you like.
4. Extra Virgin Olive oil
Olive oil contains Vitamins A, K, C, and E. Vitamin a provides the skin with retinol (builds elasticity), and Vitamin C helps boost collagen production and removes dead skin cells. Vitamin K helps the body maintain collagen once it is produced, and Vitamin E keeps your skin hydrated and firm.
Olive oil is packed with healthy vitamins, fats, and antioxidants, all of which make your skin healthy, it also locks moisture into the skin and reduces signs of aging.
- Warm up some extra virgin olive oil and apply it to affected areas, while gently massaging it for at least 15 minutes.
- Repeat this remedy once per day to see fast results.
5. Avocado And Cucumber Mask
Avocados contain oils that help boost collagen production in the skin, cucumbers contain the enzyme elastase which prevents the breakdown of elastin in the skin. When mixed, both avocado and cucumber can help make the skin firm, remove dead skin cells, promote cell regeneration and reduce sagging skin.
This mixture also helps exfoliate the skin and promotes blood circulation and blood flow in the skin. A process that is essential for firmer skin.
- Blend both ingredients into a fine paste and apply it to the affected areas of your skin. Leave it on for 30 minutes and rinse it off with cold water.
- Repeat this remedy 4-5 times per week for better results.
6. Yogurt And Honey
Honey is very rich in antioxidants that help protect the skin from free radicals. It also keeps the skin hydrated by locking in moisture. Yogurt on the other hand contains zinc, zinc is very effective in firming the skin and reducing inflammation. Zinc is also known to remove dead skin cells, and regenerate cells, and tissues in the skin.
- Mix a few tablespoons of organic honey into a cup of yogurt and apply it to the affected areas of your skin. Leave it on for 30 minutes and rinse it off with warm water.
- Repeat this remedy 2-3 times per week for great results.
One of the best ways to get elasticity back into your skin is by drinking enough water daily. It is recommended to drink up to 2 liters of water daily for healthy skin. Water prevents dehydration in your cells and skin tissue which is vital for skin and overall health.
Keep a bottle of water handy and sip throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated and bring back its elasticity.
Exercising regularly will help increase blood flow and nourish your skin cells. Blood carries oxygen throughout your skin cells and reduces free radicals that cause damaged skin. You don’t have to go to the gym to incorporate exercise into your daily routine.
Doing yoga, palates or aerobics can be great for increasing blood flow and skin elasticity. All of which can be done even while you at work.
Similar to exercising, massaging the skin regularly can help improve blood flow and reduce sagging. By using lemon, tea tree, or rosemary essential oil and massaging your skin regularly, you can reduce sagging and tighten up your skin.
Just make sure you mix your essential oils with other carrier oils like olive oil or coconut oil before applying them to your skin. Essential oils can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions when applied directly to the skin.
